On March 3rd, we gathered in Palma, Mallorca for a workshop on sea ice essential ocean variables (EOVs) and essential climate variables (ECVs) ahead of our annual meeting starting tomorrow.
“Today we discussed the need for indicators, particularly sea ice indicators, to understand the changing ocean and climate and to advice policy” – Steffen Malskær Olsen
Sea ice is one of the most sensitive indicators of our changing climate. At ObsSea4Clim, we make a coordinated effort to estimate sea ice ECV uncertainties using satellite observations, in situ measurements, and model outputs, with the overall aim to assess the needs and optimal approaches to capture sea ice loss.
The workshop gave us the opportunity to share the latest results and align our efforts on sea ice EOV and ECV development and uncertainty estimation.
