Copenhagen, Denmark | 13 – 14 March 2024

Over two days, the ObsSea4Clim consortium gathered in Copenhagen and online, diving into discussions across the project partners. The meeting set out to strengthen work relations and team spirit, foster a common understanding of the project scope, pinpoint crucial interactions between Work Packages, establish the groundwork for the initial six months of ObsSea4Clim and to engage and initiate dialogues with other initiatives and key organisations.
Project Coordinator, Steffen Olsen (DMI) opened the meeting outlining ObsSea4Clim’s overaching goal, objectives, building blocks, and approach, setting the scene for unpacking the state of play, objectives, long-term outcomes and internal and external connections in the project’s Work Packages. With this introduction as a foundation for the project members, the first day proceeeded with focused breakout discussions within and across the Work Packages outline actionable steps and interconnections within the project.

The second day centred on opening the discussion to start the work on making ObsSea4Clim science actionable, initiating dialogues with key organisations including Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), Ocean Observations Physics and Climate panel (OOPC), and Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) Surface Reference Network (GSRN), drawing lessons learned from the EuroSea project, and establishing connections with our sister project, BioEcoOcean.

The kick-off concluded with work plans laid out, connections made and a clear direction for moving forward.
